Behind the science
The skin microbiome consists of billions of microorganisms living right there on your skin. This microbiome is critical for healthy skin.
The use of skin personal care products on a regular basis has been ubiquitous for many decades, but until recently, skincare did not recognize the importance of maintaining a healthy skin microbiome, which we now know is key to lasting skin health.
Meanwhile, a seemingly increasing range of skin conditions such as dermatitis, psoriasis, rosacea or acne continues to plague us. But current dermatological treatment still comes with considerable side effects, risks and high relapse rates.

Your skin microbiome is your best friend
Cutibacterium acnes is naturally by far the most abundant bacteria species on healthy skin and account for 60 to 90% of the whole bacterial population. It is the cornerstone of a healthy skin microbiome.
S-Biomedic identified the good guys, specific strains, that are ideally suited for your skin type or skin conditions. These specific beneficial strains of Cutibacterium, are carefully selected for their ability to produce beneficial substances and health effects.

Cutibacterium, the cornerstone of your skin microbiome
Clinically Proven: Effective and Safe
We have consistently demonstrated the safety & efficacy of our Living Skin Probiotics in over 15 clinical studies so far…

Working with nature and not against it…
S-Biomedic is a pioneer in discovering how the microbiome on the skin is closely connected to the health of your skin, and how imbalances within this microbiome are connected to a wide variety of skin conditions and diseases.
-
Cracking the Code
We keep “Cracking the Code” on an ever-increasing number of skin microbiome imbalances and ways to nurse the skin back to a balanced natural state.
-
Modulation Technology
Our proprietary “Modulation Technology” enables us to restore beneficial bacteria on the skin, which has often lost too many of the good guys.
-
Living Skin CutiBiotics®
Our Living Skin Probiotics and Postbiotics help the good guys overpower the bad and “teach” our skin to manage various underlying factors that cause conditions like acne, eczema, and rosacea.
“Researchers show that the composition of human skin microbiome can be modulated.”
“Applying ‘good guy’ bacteria onto affected skin, to replace the ‘bad guy’ bacteria that caused the condition.”
“Dr. Güell described his fascination with recent reports of the first successful micro bacteria gut transplants”
Pioneering Skin Microbiome Field
-
1st skin microbiome transplantation
1st to successfully perform a skin microbiome transplantation, inspired by earlier gut microbiome transplants were shown to reverse gut-disease.
-
Proven technology platform
After proving our technology for acne, we built a breakthrough pipeline for skin microbiome ingredients with novel methods of action and clinical validation.
-
Clinically and dermatologically validated
Over 15 successful clinical studies so far in applying skin-natural Living Skin for healthy and diseased skin.
-
Now, Alive in the bottle and alive on your skin
We solved the whole process from safely manufacturing to formulation in various skincare product formats.
“Truly understanding the skin microbiome is the key”
— Bernhard Paetzold PhD, Chief Scientific Officer and Co-founder of S-Biomedic
We believe in the symbiosis of your skin with its microbes. In the long run, harsh chemicals don't pay off to correct imbalances, and oftentimes, create a new set of problems.
Our scientific approach uses Next-Gen Sequencing techniques to unravel the skin microbiome. But we quickly figured out it takes even more, much more, to unravel and identify the strain-specific biochemical and physiological mechanisms that are modulating the skin towards a healthy or problematic state. We believe we’ve ‘cracked the code’.
And we had to figure out how to formulate and preserve living probiotic skincare formulations, so they are alive in the bottle and alive on your skin.

Our publications
The targeted modulation of the human skin microbiome is a revolutionizing therapy. Inspired by the powerful potential of microbial modulation, the team at S-Biomedic focused on the skin as an important target for our research on the skin microbiome.
